Dear Visitor:

On behalf of the Igorot Global Organization, I welcome you to our website.

The Igorot Global Organization (IGO), is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation of the culture and existence of an indigenous group of people in Northern Luzon, Philippines, called the "Igorots". "Igolot" or "Igorot" literally means "people of the mountains".

Until the turn of the century, the Igorots had lived isolated lives, unaffected by world events.. For more than 350 years of Spanish colonial rule, while the greater part of the Philippines was controlled by Spain, the Igorots, with spears and head axes, successfully repulsed Spanish attempts to subjugate them. This resulted in the Igorots retaining their mountain independence and developing a culture that is truly indigenous. However, this mountain independence and isolation from modern civilization left the Igorots without the necessary tools and skills to compete in the new technical environment.

The challenge then for IGO is to help preserve for future generations the better part of that Igorot culture, which Igorots developed since time immemorial, while catching up with all the advances in life in this modern age.

In this website, you will find information on our history and culture as well as programs designed to support the Igorot peoples. We invite you to explore our unique and distinct culture. We also encourage you to ask any questions you may have.

Again, thank you for visiting our website. It is still under construction so we hope you will visit us frequently as we will update it regularly.

Sincerely,

Rex Botengan President & Chief of the Council of Elders The Igorot Global Organization
